Hyperbaric Chamber Visit

Peter Leaves the Hyperbaric chamber with a smile on his face
Febuary club night saw 16 of us go on a tour of the hyperbaric chamber at the Prince of Wales Hospital at Randwick. We were given a very informative presentation by a doctor, a nurse and the hyperbaric technician. After the presentation we were also given a tour of both the inside and the outside of the chamber. It was a really good experience to see what would actually happen to you if you were bent.

The chamber was a lot bigger than most people thought. With about 8 people being able to be accommodated in the main chamber. The most important thing we learn while at the chamber was that if you suspect you are bent you should get to a chamber as soon as possible as the sooner you treat your injuries the more chance of a full recovery. They also let us know that there is nothing ‘shameful’ with getting decompression sickness and sometimes even someone who has done everything within the tables and within computers will still get bent.
