Montague Island weekend

While everyone was getting ready for a long weekend of parting with the closing ceremony of the Olympics we has 12 divers head off to Montague Island for a great weekend of diving. The weather was great, the diving was great and the weekend turned out to be excellent.

Seals

We were staying at the Island View Beach Resort and the early rises went to the beach each morning to see the sun rise over the Island. Some of the sleepy heads not mentioning any particular rooms names, Philippe, Chris and Helens room, wanted to see the sunrise but never quite made it. On the way out to the dive sites in the boat each day we saw loads of dolphins and even a whale spout water. The dives were great ranging from 12m to 30m with a visibility of about 15m. Although the smell of the seals was potent it was well worth it. They just wanted to play and copy you. They would bark in you face and egg you on to chase them. You would do somersaults and they would copy you. Although the water was quite rough on the Sunday Robyn, Travis, Carl, Chris, Phillip and Rachael managed to dive the wreck the Lady Darling. This wreck was lost for 100 years and not many people have done this dive. It was a great dive as well with plenty of life and colour. There was even a wobbegong sleeping in a porthole.

Although the highlight of the weekend must have been diving with the seals and the Lady Darling wreck, the weekend would not have been the same without the great bunch of people that went along. Although we had three cabins to stay in most of the night was spent around the BBQ area or all piled into one-cabin talking. A great time was had by all, both under the water and while on land!
