Bubbles from the Abyss

2 February, 2007

Dear fellow Diver,

If you have not been to Jervis Bay, then I can only say to you it is the best diving in New South Wales,if you have not been on a live a aboard then I can only say it is the easiest and most pleasant way to dive, and to those of you who have done the live aboard trip I can only say why aren't you booked on the live aboard trip next weekends to JB.

Located approximately 2.5 hours drive south of Sydney. Jervis Bay has crystal clear water with viz. ranging from 10-25m. The dive sites at Jervis Bay are numerous and each site offers something different. Dive sites usually range in depth, so divers can set their own depth limit in accordance with their experience.

Underwater life is abundant. There are beautiful untouched sponge gardens nothing like what you have seen in Sydney, supporting a vast array of life, such as Sea Baskets, Starfish, Nudibranchs, Pygmy Leatherjackets, Red Indianfish, Weedy Seadragons, Seahorses, numerous rays, Blue Grouper and much more. There are giant underwater boulders, which hide giant cuttlefish, Port Jackson sharks, Blue Devil Fish and Wobbiegongs. There are underwater cliffs and cracks, there are drop offs and large caves to explore. There are big schools of yellowtail and old wives, dolphins frolic in the bow waves of boats .

Diving from a liveaboard gives you the unique opportunity in that you can do as much or as little diving as you want. Have a dive after breakfast, again after lunch and why not hit the water again for a late afternoon dive. After dinner there is always the chance to experience the magic of a night dive as well.

There are a couple of places left on next weeknds JB liveaboar trip so book today www.abyss.com.au/TJervis.html

Yours in great diving,
Peter Letts

Tip of the Week
SLIDE EASILY INTO A WETSUIT

Actually, if it slides on, it is probably too loose.

Lost of people have dificulties in putting on a wetsuit, particularly if it is a new one. The trick to pulling on a wetsuit is to start low on the body and move up. Pull an ankle over a foot first, then stretch out the lower leg of the suit over your calf. Put the other foot in and do the same.

Pull both legs over your knees, stretching them up as far as you can. Then pull the leg up over your thighs as far as you can.

Be sure the crouch of the suit is as high as you can get it before you try to put your arms in the sleeves.

Wreck of the Week
With only a few months to go untill our Truk Lagoon trip I though I might wet the appetites for those on the trip and make those not on the trip a little envious.
If you are in the Shop over the next week make sure you check out the DVD playing in the travel section at the front of the store.

Nippo Maru

  • Tonnage 3,763 ts
  • Max depth 44m
  • Lies upright with a list to port
This is one of my favourite wrecks in Truk Lagoon. It was sunk by 3 bomb hits. The Bridge is a phostcard shot with the only thing spoining the shot been all the fish schooling in the area. The Deck cargo is captured American guns. Holds are very interesting , they are full of shells, mines, fuel drums and crates of bottles.

A small Tank is on the port deck. There are water transportation tanks in forward hold.
