This week is as follows: Trip Report HMAS Brisbane Well I made it back to the HMAS Brisbane before the end of the year and we were lucky enough to get at least one day of diving due to weather. We set our geared up and boarded the charter boat "2 Ezy" for a 15-20 minute trip to the dive site. Once we arrived my buddy and I finished gearing up as we were both keen to see how much it had changed in four months since our visit. With a slight current we jumped in and swam up towards the bough of "2 Ezy" to descend down the mooring line. As Gordon and I descended upon the wreck, we were fortunate enough to see a spotted eagle ray as it majestically swam towards the bow of the wreck. We made our entrance on the starboard side of the wreck working our way down to the boiler room I was amazed at the amount of soft sponges and sea life, in some instances we were swimming through thick schools of fish to get to the next room. ![]() Coming out at the stern of the wreck we drop to 27 meters to see a Bull Ray resting on the sea floor. After stopping and looking at the massive ray we made our way up the port side of the wreck entering one of the many holes that had been cut away before the ship was sunk. We made our way through out the wreck until we reached the upper deck were we spent the rest of our time before we had to make our assent. The second dive saw Gordon and I go down the stack to the boiler room again and slowly work our way back through the wreck to the top deck, before you knew it we were at our turn around point and back on board the “2 Ezy” for our trip back to shore. As we could not dive on the Sunday some of us rented cars to go to Australia Zoo while the rest of us head up to Glass House Mountains. After a quick stop at the big parrot and the fresh macadamia shop we made it to Glass House Mountain were we did an 800 metre walk. Back in the car we did some off road driving and stopped at a winery so we could get directions to the Pennyfarthing Tavern. Once the wine tasting had finished we were back on our way to the Tavern but were side tracked by a cheese making shop were we stopped for lunch. Next time we go back we will have to pickup the cheeses we left behind. We eventually made it to the Pennyfarthing Tavern were we proceeded to have a nice cool beverage before heading back to the accommodation for a nice BBQ to finish the day. On the way back we stopped at the big pineapple to finish a great day. Thanks to Peter and Sue for making it a great trip way and the designated drives.
See you diving Equipment Specialist course, which teaches you how gear works, the different types, their pros and cons, how to care for it and how to adjust and refine things to suit your individual needs. For instance, what’s the difference between piston and diaphragm first stage regulators? What is single bladder versus dual bladder BCD construction? The pros and cons of different types of alternate air source. Sure you can read about these things but you can’t beat seeing for yourself with your instructor in class. Another reason to check out the Equipment Specialist course is that Christmass is approaching. By being up on different gear and the latest models, you’ll know exactly what to put on your wish list and (in the spirit of giving) what to get for your diver friends. The PADI Equipment Specialist course isn’t a repair course, but if you’re interested in learning to service dive gear, it’s the first step. It provides the foundation you need about how each component works, which is a must if you want to continue on with manufacturer training and certification in equipment overhaul and repair. So, this is an especially good course for anyone interested in diving as a vocation or avocation. If you’re looking for one more specialty to cap off your PADI Master Scuba Diver rating, consider the Equipment Specialist course. Our next Equipment course is Tuesday 14th-Thursday 16th 6:30pm- 9:30pm
