Botany Bay Watch is an environmental group that is helping monitor and protect Botany Bay. Join the growing number of volunteers helping survey the marine species found in the Botany Bay Catchment. This PADI Specialty Course teaches you how to survey key marine species in Botany Bay including how to monitor the bays' Weedy Seadragon Population.

 
Course Schedule:
  • Starts at 8:00am
  • Theory and Fish Identification review, including survey protocols
  • 2 x Survey Dives
  • Online data entry session
  • Finish at 5:00pm

Volunteering to help protect and safe guard your own marine backyard is exciting, interesting and extremely rewarding. Join the ever growing number of eco divers, helping keep a keen eye over the bays fragile and unique marine creatures and habitats.

Botany Bay Watch is a truly volunteer-based environmental community group that has a strong commitment to protecting Botany Bays marine wonders. Implementing sound survey protocols to monitor the bays eco systems will are able to define change within the bay.

Divers from all age groups are involved in Botany Bay Watch and are all directly helping secure the safety of many protected marine species. Botany Bay is home to Weedy Sea-Dragons, Sea-Horses, Stingrays, Star Fish, Nudibranches, Feather Stars, Angler Fish and hundreds of other vertebrate and invertebrate species. Most of these marine creatures are territorial; meaning they cannot survive out of there selected ecosystem. Volunteers are helping safe guard these unique creatures. With more than 50,000 scuba divers currently living in Sydney, Botany Bay Watch is helping unite the diving community with a single common goal. To protect our marine wonderland.

Comments: Terrific fun and a good cause is always a fine combination. And so is this course. Highly recommended to anyone who likes look at and for fishes (which includes all divers), and who cares about the environment that they live in (which is also all divers). But we also have to keep diving and collecting this information.

Comments: The Botany Bay and Weedy Watch course helps bridge the gap between amateur fish spotters and serious researchers. Not only is it educational and loads of fun but the data we collect is actually useful and it has definitely helped with my personal awareness as a diver. Now I actively seek out marine animals in their habitat where previously they were just fish that appeared randomly during a dive. Comments: I really enjoyed the course and found that it gave me a much greater understanding of identifiying different species, where they live and the individual habbits that each have. Not only was it good fun but i also got to meet alot or great people while helping to moniter the environment and intern helping towards saveing it. Great day Abyss and my thanks to Carl, i will definately be along again for another day.
