Abyss scuba Diving will be running a trip designed for deep specialty or higher certified divers. The trip will dive the S.S.Satara and then the sharks at Seal Rocks (Forster). The wrecks is a depth of 40m -44m. The diver Must be deep speciality certified and have a redundant air source.
The wreck of the S.S Satara is one of the best shipwrecks on the east coast of Australia. The
Satara was constructed by W.Denny & Bros of Dumbarton, Scotland in December 1901.she was 130 metres long (429 feet) & was of steel construction with two decks.

At around 10 am on 21st of April 1910 she collided with Edith Breaker just south of Seal Rocks and sank shortly after. There was around the 100 crew & officers on board, all of whom survived.

The Satara now lies in 38- 45 metres of water, lying on her port side with her bow pointing out to sea and her stern inshore resting on a reef.

Because of the size of this wreck it will take several dives to see everything that is on her. Things to look for are twin boilers (normally anchor is picked in around this point), huge propeller with blades of over 2 metres in length located at the stern, anchor & chain at the bow, plus many more interesting features that you may come across. Due to the depth of the wreck a redundant air source is a must. After the Satara the second dive will be with the Sharks at Seal Rocks.

  • Satara dive each morning followed by shallow shark dive after suitable surface interval
  • 2 nights accom incl linen bedding and breakfasts
  • Air fill
  • $350
  • Must be Deep specialty diver
  • Must have a redundant air source.
  •  Dives must be a mininum of Deep Diver Certified & redundant air supply required

Comments: I was fortunate enough to join Rachael and a group of other divers on a trip to the wreck of the Satara last year. Anyone who enjoys wreck and deep diving should add this trip to their list!! As with all the Abyss trips, not only was the diving great but so was the company.

Comments: I have been fortunate enough to dive this site 6 times and it is always an impressive site, it has to be one of my favourite wrecks dives in NSW. While on the wreck i have seen things like a giant jelly fish to grey nurse sharks. The wreck is so big you need a few dives to take it all in this is a must do for any avid wreck or deep diver. Not only was the diving good the company was great and Rachael makes a good cook. Thanks for a great trip nick
