On February 17th and 18th 1944, the U.S. navy launched a devastating air attack on the Japanese Imperial Fleet that was situated inside the sheltered waters of Truk Lagoon. The assault was fifteen times more powerful than the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour.
Code named Operation Hailstone, the initial strike was made up of 72 fighters launched from five carriers. When the smoke cleared 15 Japanese naval ships, 6 tankers, 17 cargo ships and 25 American planes and 250 Japanese planes were lying on the bottom of the Lagoon. Subsequent air raids in April, May and June sunk more ships, and by the end of the war, more than 60 destroyed vessels were on the Lagoon floor.

Comments: I went to Truk for 9 days over New Year last year and I cant even put into words how amazing this place is! I was there with a group for 9 days, we did around 18 dives and I could not get enough!! The wrecks are so diverse, from snorkelling on a 5m ship, to technical diving to 60m on the million dollar wreck, Truk covers divers of all experience levels. I had such a good time and can not WAIT to go back, hopefully sometime soon, there is still sooooo much to see!!

Comments: Fantastic trip – all you might expect from one of the greatest dive sites in the world. The wrecks were excellent and it really helped to be part of a group of experienced deco divers. Jamie provided the right mix of management and flexibility. Everyone had the opportunity to do their own dive plans and see the parts they wanted to see, but all the logistics were taken care of. As usual for these trips, the chance to share the experience with a group of easy going, but serious, divers just adds ... More details

"Designed by God"

Comments: Clear, warm water, deep wrecks, only 5 people to a boat, a bar near the wharf sellin cold Heinekens when you get back. Throw in a little sunshine and a good crew to travel with and it doesn't get much beeter. As Phil said, "Designed by God!"
