Shark Diving at Magic Point in Sydney

Shark Diving at Magic Point in Sydney. Shark Dive the only location in Sydney where divers can regularly dive with grey nurse sharks.
Shark Dives with the Grey Nurse Sharks at magic point is a special experience and Abyss Scuba diving have regular boat dives out to dive with the sharks.

The cost of the double boat Shark Dive is $110 including Divemaster Services and a light lunch between dives. Enjoy the comfort of a twin hull Marlin Broadbill built specifically for scuba diving not only offering comfortable diving but even a hot onboard showers for after the dive.

Magic Point the home of the Grey Nurse Shark

The boat is quite comfortable, and fast with a turn around of about 4 hours. If you get seasick or think you may get seasick, take seasick tablets - there is nothing worse than being sick at sea. A light lunch will be provided between the dives. Remember to bring a wind proof jacket & sun cream to allow for all weather conditions. A wind proof/water proof jacket is the best bet, that way it does not matter if it gets wet on the swim out to the boat. A beanie to keep your head warm is also a great idea, but be aware, you will get wet while boarding the boat. It is a boat ramp entry and you need to swim out to the boat in the water.

There is toilets and a show on board the boat. There will be a light lunch provided as well.

The plan is to do one dive with the sharks at magic point as well as another dive at a site nearby. We will check out conditions on the day and decide where the other dive will be. The sharks are in 15m of water and the site goes out to a max depth of 22m. You can expect to see weedy sea dragons on the sand line, Cuttle fish, gropers, and schooling yellow tail.

Finding the Sharks while diving at Magic Point

Grey Nurse SharkWhen diving Magic Point, the main focus is usually on viewing the sharks. Although is possible to reach in excess of twenty metres at the site, you’d be best to stay at around the sixteen metre mark, thus extending your bottom time. There are a number of ledges leading towards the Point, ascending from 20+ metres to 16 metres, then 8. The cave is located in the latter ledge and extends for about 15 metres in an east/west direction. About 35 metres south east of this cave is a smaller overhang which can also contain grey nurse sharks.

In front of the main cave is a flat expanse, lined to the noth east with small boulders – a perfect place from which to view the sharks without disturbing them.

"Spectacular dive"

Comments: The grey nurse sharks were amazing. There were 8 or so mid-sized ones swimming around in a cave and 3 more much larger ones in a separate cave. Moreover, 2 actually swam right past us. We also saw a number of cuttlefish including some big ones and a baby one. Sue the dive guide was great as well. I would highly recommend this dive and Abyss.

"Incredible dive with the sharks"

Comments: This dive was the best I have ever done (ok, I'm fairly new to diving). We saw more than 10 sharks swimming around us, a giant ray approached us from behind too. The second dive was even more interesting with a huge school of fish wall 10 m high and very very long, swimming past us, wobbegong shark and here I even found a shark tooth for my little cousin when we visited the sharks again at the end of the dive. This is a must for divers in Sydney.

"Great experience!"

Comments: I had a wonderful time! Great divemaster and atmosphere on the boat. The sharks are beautiful and the rest of the dive site surrounding the sharks is also very interesting! Thanks Abyss for a great day!
