Dive Site: Bass & Flinders

Bass & Flinders

General description
Bass & Flinders is a good alternative when Oak Park is unavailable due to unfavourable conditions, or can be done as a drift dive past ‘Column House’ to the latter on an outgoing tide.

Getting there
Oak Park is at the end of Gowrie Street in Cronulla and aproximatelly 15 minutes from Abyss Scuba Diving

Entry and exit
Located on the southern-most point of the Cronulla peninsula, the entry/exit point can be accessed via a walkway that leads west from the monument (highly visible at the end of Gowrie St). A set of stairs leads off the walkway, leading down to the water's edge. The entry point is just to the right of a large green pipe. The entry point can also serve as the exit.

Entry Point

The Dives
The site is quite shallow at first, 4-5 metres, slowly descending to 7 metres as you head east. Kelp runs along the shoreline and after reaching its most southern point breaks into large sections of boulders that extend south. There's no point in heading south out on the sand, there's only sand, sand and more sand. As a drift dive, you shouldn't exceed 60 minutes to reach Oak Park.
