Abyss Scuba Diving

Gabrielle has always loved the water, having grown up on farms she would be swimming in the dams on weekends. Family vacations were camping trips with the family boat and water skiing. Weekdays included swimming training, where she would compete at State level comps.

Gabrielle first got a taste of diving when she did a Discover Scuba Dive on the Great Barrier Reef with her Dad as her buddy back in mid-2016. Then finally decided to become a diver in June of 2019, completing her OW course.

Gabrielle also has a Bachelor of Marine Biology from Macquarie University, which she completed in mid-2019 to develop her love of the ocean. This is her biggest achievement to date, being able to have her entire family cheer her across the stage. Unable to find her way into an entry level position, she decided to use the money she was saving to travel the world to finally become a diver. It was going to go either way. Travel then scuba or scuba then travel. Covid just decided for her. So, if you have any marine based questions. Do not hesitate to ask her, the next time you see her. If she doesn’t know, you can guarantee she will find out for you.

Gabrielle is one of our full-time staff here at Abyss, leading our monthly marine dives. These dives focus on a specific marine creature and aim to inform those on the dives of these wonderful creatures living in the ocean we prefer to call home. Gabrielle has done most of her diving in Sydney, some in Narooma and just recently completed a liveaboard off Townsville. Being able to see such diverse reefs is one of the joys of her job.

Gabrielle is also hoping to complete her Master Freediver and Instructor Freediver courses once the lockdown has finished. So, if you would like to become a Freediver, we hope to see you in and around the shop very soon.
