Scuba Dive with Seals

Prepare for one of the most thrilling underwater experiences—diving with Australian fur seals! These energetic and inquisitive marine mammals are known for their playful nature, often darting around divers, flipping and twirling through the water, and coming in for a closer look. Their acrobatic underwater antics make for an unforgettable diving experience, and their curiosity means they are just as excited to see you as you are to see them!

The dive site is located just a 10-minute boat ride from Port Kembla Harbour, giving you easy access to a unique wildlife interaction in a natural, open-water environment. Unlike structured marine encounters, these seals are completely wild, and their interactions depend on their mood—sometimes they’ll play non-stop, and other times they’ll simply lounge around.

Your Dive Day Includes:

✔ Divemaster services for guidance and safety (max 10 divers per DM)

❌ We do not provide transport from Sydney to Port Kembla—you will need to arrange your own transportation.

❌ We do not provide transportation for rental equipment to Port Kembla. All gear must be picked up and returned directly to our dive centre in Ramsgate.

This experience is perfect for certified divers looking for an up-close and personal encounter with seals in their natural habitat. If you haven’t dived in the past 12 months, we highly recommend completing a refresher course before joining.

For divers who prefer additional one-on-one guidance, you can book a private divemaster for an extra $199 to ensure personalised attention and assistance.

The Abyss Dive Boat – Comfort, Speed & Convenience

Your adventure begins aboard our custom-built 12.5-meter aluminium-collared RIB, designed for speed, stability, and comfort. This high-performance vessel was built in 2020 and is modelled after marine rescue boats, featuring:

900-horsepower engine for fast yet stable travel
Spacious deck with plenty of room for gear and movement
Dual ladders for easy water entry and exit
Onboard toilet and hot showers for extra convenience
Comfortable undercover seating for shade and relaxation
Experienced, professional crew always ready to assist

With its superior speed, the Abyss dive boat allows divers to reach dive sites quickly, enjoy two dives, and still be back before lunchtime—perfect for those who love efficiency without compromising on adventure.

Boat Diving Safety & Requirements

• Site Selection & Conditions: While we aim to dive at the seal site, dive locations are subject to change based on weather and sea conditions. The skipper always has the final say to ensure diver safety.
• Depth Restrictions: If you plan to dive deeper than 18 meters, you must hold an Advanced Open Water certification.
• Equipment Requirements: Every diver must carry a safety sausage (SMB). If you don’t have one, you can purchase one online when booking or on the morning of the dive.
• Experience Requirements: If you haven’t dived in the last 6 months and have fewer than 20 logged dives, you’ll need to complete a refresher dive before joining the boat dive.

Not a Diver? Try Snorkeling or Freediving with Seals!

If you don’t scuba dive but still want to experience the magic of swimming with Australian fur seals, we offer both snorkeling and freediving with seals as alternative options. This is a fantastic way for freedivers or non-divers to witness these playful creatures in action from the surface.

This trip operates on a different boat from the scuba diving experience.
It is a shorter excursion than the scuba diving trip.
It is also a more affordable option compared to seal diving on scuba.

During this adventure, you'll have the chance to float and observe as seals twist, turn, and glide effortlessly around you—sometimes even mimicking your movements! Boat Dive Cancellation Terms and Conditions

By booking a boat dive with Abyss Scuba Diving, you agree to the following cancellation and transfer conditions.

• Cancellations made more than 3 days before the dive: A refund will be issued, less a $25 administration fee.
• Cancellations made within 3 days of the dive: No refund will be provided.
• No-shows or late arrivals: If you do not attend, arrive late, or miss the boat departure, no refund or credit will be issued. Rebooking will be at full cost.
• Date transfers: One free date transfer is permitted when requested more than 3 days before the dive. Additional date changes, or any transfer requested within 3 days of the dive, will incur a $100 rebooking fee.
• Transferring your booking to another person: Boat dive bookings may be transferred to another certified diver at any time, subject to a $100 rebooking fee. The replacement diver must meet all certification, experience, and medical requirements for the dive.
• Incomplete dives: If you choose not to complete one or more scheduled dives, or are unable to complete them during the scheduled trip, the unused dive or dives are forfeited and no refund or credit will be issued.
• Weather or safety cancellations by Abyss Scuba Diving: If Abyss Scuba Diving cancels the boat dive due to unsafe conditions, including weather or sea conditions, your booking may be transferred to another available date within 12 months. Any price difference at the time of rebooking will apply.

Please ensure you are certified, medically fit to dive, and arrive on time for your scheduled boat dive. Refunds or credits are not available where participation is prevented by late arrival, failure to meet dive requirements, or personal circumstances within the cancellation period.
