Beginner Dive Calendar — Sydney Dives & Vanuatu Escapes

Keep diving after certification with guided Sydney dives, skill-building courses and beginner-friendly Vanuatu long weekend escapes. Choose a local adventure or make your first overseas dive trip with an Abyss instructor travelling with you from Sydney. Certified through another recognised agency or dive centre? You are welcome. Start with the live schedule and choose an option that matches your certification, recent experience and confidence.

Ocean conditions vary. Descriptions are guides rather than guarantees. The team may change the site or recommend another option after assessing the weather, water conditions, group experience and your recent diving.

I’ve just qualified. Which dive should I book?Ask our AI assistant for a suitable upcoming dive and booking link.
No buddy yet—can I still join?

Yes—you can book a guided dive on your own. Let us know you need a buddy when you book. The team organises buddy arrangements and briefs the group before the dive.

Tell us your certification, roughly how many dives you have done and when you last dived so we can help you choose a suitable outing. Coming on your own is a good way to meet other divers.

Newly certified and nervous—who will help?

You can build confidence a dive at a time. On a guided dive, the team provides a dive briefing, organises buddies and guides the group. Tell us what you feel unsure about before booking so we can help you choose an appropriate dive.

Group guidance does not include a dedicated one-to-one instructor or a staff member as your personal buddy. If you need closer assistance with skills, buoyancy or confidence, talk to us before booking so we can discuss suitable support or further training.

Would the Vanuatu long weekend suit a new diver?

Yes, it can be a great first overseas dive trip after Open Water. An Abyss instructor travels with the group from Sydney, and repeated guided dives give you opportunities to practise your routines and build experience in warm water.

The right fit depends on your confidence, recent diving and the support you need. Tell us when you qualified, when you last dived and anything you are unsure about so the team can discuss your readiness before you book. Group support does not automatically include one-to-one instruction.

Do I need my own dive equipment?

You do not need to own a full set to keep diving. Tell us what equipment you need when booking so we can confirm hire availability, fit and cost.

Check the inclusions for your chosen activity. A free guided shore dive does not include free equipment hire. Arrange the equipment you need before the day, and check the meeting time and location on your booking details.
