Start where you are

Choose the statement closest to you and we’ll show the most useful next step.

A break does not send you back to the beginning.

Start with a supportive skills review and an easy first dive back. The right format depends on your experience, recency and current comfort—it is not a test.

Newly certified divers completing a supported Sydney shore dive

Make your First Six dives a real plan.

The aim is simple: dive once within 30 days, twice within 60 and six times within 180. Use supported dates and no-buddy-required options without rushing into difficult diving.

The current First 3 planner covers the first half of this pathway. Continue to six suitable dives within 180 days to create real momentum.

Dive 1 / 30 daysBook and complete your first supported post-course dive.
Dive 2 / 60 daysComplete at least two dives and make core routines feel familiar.
Dive 6 / 180 daysReach six dives, review your progress and choose what comes next.
Where Advanced can fit: Advanced is five supported experiences—not proof that you are already experienced. When you are ready, it can introduce buoyancy, navigation, depth and other directions while you keep building recent experience. No regular buddy? Choose a supported date and Abyss can help you join an appropriate group.
Choose your direction

What would make you want to dive more often?

Choose one direction. We’ll show how training, real dives, the people you dive with and the end goal fit together, then filter the live courses that support it.

Training questions

Useful answers before you book.

I just finished Open Water. Should I do Advanced immediately?

Advanced can be an excellent way to gain supported experience, but it is not the only option. Your priority is to keep diving in suitable conditions and develop confidence while your skills are fresh.

I was certified elsewhere. Can I train with Abyss?

Yes. Recognised equivalent certifications are welcome. Check the prerequisite on the individual course page or ask us if the equivalence is unclear.

I have not dived recently. Do I need a refresher?

It depends on the length of the break, your experience and how confident you feel. A refresher is a supportive return—not a test or a punishment.

I do not have a regular buddy. Can I still train and dive?

Yes. Abyss courses and guided dives allow you to participate without arranging your own buddy and can help you meet divers with similar experience and interests.

Human judgement

Want an instructor to check the whole pathway?

Tell us where you are now and which direction you selected. A real Abyss instructor will review your certification, logged experience, recency, confidence, buddy situation, prerequisites and the current live options before recommending the simplest suitable next step. The answer may be a course, a refresher, more diving first or no extra training yet.
