Why this trip feels different

A familiar Abyss face

Your instructor-host helps with preparation before travel, supports the group in Vanuatu and stays connected after the trip. You are not simply handed over to an overseas operator.

Designed around newer divers

The pace is guided and confidence-building, with clear briefings, buddy support and time to become comfortable with warm-water tropical diving.

Four evenings together

Thursday welcome dinner, Friday night-dive BBQ, Saturday dinner and Sunday farewell create the time for a group of customers to become a group of dive buddies.

A real escape in one long weekend

Enjoy three days of diving and relaxed island time while taking only three weekdays away from work on a typical Thursday-to-Monday itinerary.

Trip-only course offer

Add PADI Advanced Open Water for $449 and save $150

AUD $449

Open Water divers can add PADI Advanced Open Water for a trip-only AUD $449, compared with the usual Abyss price of AUD $599. Complete the assigned eLearning before travel, then your Abyss instructor integrates the required Adventure Dives into the seven-dive program wherever conditions and diver readiness allow.

The course includes five Adventure Dives: Deep and Underwater Navigation are required, with three additional dives selected with the instructor to suit the destination, conditions and group.

Why complete it in Vanuatu?

  • Build confidence while diving across three consecutive days
  • Practise new skills in warm water with the same instructor-host
  • Complete theory before travel and learn mainly by diving
  • Pay AUD $449 rather than the usual Abyss price of AUD $599
  • Divers not taking the course still enjoy the same relaxed seven-dive holiday

Course completion is subject to suitable conditions, satisfactory performance, diver readiness and instructor approval. The PADI Advanced Open Water add-on should be selected during booking or arranged with Abyss before departure.

How the long weekend unfolds

The final itinerary follows flight schedules, weather, sea conditions and local operational advice. A typical departure is planned as follows:

Thursday Arrive in Port Vila, transfer to the accommodation, check in, complete a gear check and meet the group over the included welcome dinner.
Friday Two guided day dives to settle into warm-water diving, followed by the guided night dive and included BBQ dinner.
Saturday Two guided dives, with an optional eighth trip dive possible at additional cost if timing and conditions allow. Finish with an included hosted dinner.
Sunday Two final guided dives, followed by a relaxed afternoon ashore and the included farewell dinner and T-shirt presentation.
Monday No diving. Enjoy breakfast, the planned Blue Hole or local experience, and then the airport transfer, subject to the confirmed flight schedule.

Monday is a no-dive day. Every diver must follow their dive computer, personal limits and the guidance of the dive operator, instructor and trip host when planning flying-after-diving intervals.

Meals and dietary needs

Continental breakfast and one hosted dinner are included each day. Drinks and lunches are extra.

Frequently asked questions

These are the main questions to settle before booking. Contact the Abyss dive team for personal advice about certification, recency, rooming or the Advanced course.

Is this suitable for my first overseas dive trip?

Yes. It is designed especially for new and recently certified divers who want a guided, social and well-supported first tropical dive holiday. More experienced divers are also welcome if they enjoy a relaxed group pace.

What does Abyss Barefoot Premium mean?

It means premium care without formality: an Abyss instructor-host, organised transfers, accommodation, breakfasts, four hosted dinners, guided diving and practical support, all delivered with a relaxed island feel.

What certification and recent experience do I need?

You need an Open Water Diver certification or recognised equivalent and must be medically fit to dive. Recent experience is recommended. Abyss may recommend or require a refresher if you have not dived for an extended period.

How many dives are included?

Seven guided dives are included: two day dives and one night dive on Friday, two dives on Saturday and two dives on Sunday. An optional eighth dive may be available at additional cost.

Can I complete PADI Advanced Open Water?

Yes. Eligible Open Water divers can add PADI Advanced Open Water for AUD $449 instead of the usual Abyss price of AUD $599. Complete the assigned eLearning before travel, then complete the required Adventure Dives during the weekend where conditions and readiness allow.

Will Advanced training change the holiday for everyone else?

No. Divers who do not add the course still enjoy the same relaxed seven-dive program. The instructor integrates training into suitable dives rather than running a separate classroom timetable.

What meals are included?

Continental breakfast is included each morning, together with Thursday welcome dinner, Friday night-dive BBQ, Saturday dinner and Sunday farewell dinner. Lunches and drinks are not included.

Is dive gear included?

Tanks and weights are included. Other equipment can be arranged at additional cost and should be organised well before departure.

When should I book flights?

Wait until Abyss confirms in writing that minimum numbers and accommodation are secured and the departure is proceeding. International flights are not included in the package price.

Can solo travellers or non-diving partners join?

Solo travellers are welcome, with twin-share matching attempted where possible. Non-diving partners may be able to join selected departures; contact Abyss for current pricing and confirmed inclusions.

What deposit and travel insurance apply?

The trip-specific $500 deposit shown at checkout applies. Travel insurance covering scuba diving, overseas medical treatment, cancellation and emergency evacuation is required. Check the policy wording carefully before committing to non-refundable travel costs.

What happens on the Monday no-dive day?

The plan is to enjoy breakfast and the Blue Hole or an equivalent local experience before the airport transfer. The exact activity and timing remain subject to the confirmed flight schedule and local operations.
