Abyss Scuba Diving team profile
Meet Rachael Fallon, General Manager, PADI Course Director and Avelo Instructor Trainer at Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney. Rachael helps divers build confidence, develop strong skills and progress from their first scuba course through to professional-level training.
Rachael Fallon is the General Manager and a PADI Course Director at Abyss Scuba Diving. She has been part of the Abyss story from the beginning and has spent more than two decades teaching, mentoring and supporting divers in Sydney.
Her experience spans beginner scuba courses, instructor development, Avelo instructor training, freediving instructor training, technical diving, rebreather diving and emergency first response training. That combination makes her a trusted point of contact for new divers, continuing divers and professionals looking to take the next step.
Rachael began her PADI instructor career in 2000 and later became a PADI Course Director, the highest level of PADI instructor training. She is also an Avelo Instructor Trainer and Freediver Instructor Trainer, helping other instructors adopt new training approaches and build safer, more confident students.
At Abyss Scuba Diving, Rachael’s role combines hands-on diver training with dive centre leadership. She helps shape the standards, teaching culture and student experience behind Abyss courses, from first-time scuba certification through to professional pathways.
Rachael understands how important the first course is. Her teaching approach focuses on calm instruction, clear communication and helping new divers feel capable in the water.
As a PADI Course Director, Rachael mentors future dive professionals and supports instructors as they build the skills needed to teach safely and confidently.
As an Avelo Instructor Trainer, Rachael helps divers and instructors understand new equipment systems and how they can change the way divers learn and move underwater.
Rachael’s background also includes technical, deep, wreck, dry suit, enriched air and rebreather training, giving her a broad perspective across recreational and advanced diving.
Rachael believes good diving starts with confidence, curiosity and connection. Her goal is to help students feel calm, capable and aware underwater rather than simply ticking off course requirements.
“Every diver remembers their instructor. My goal is to make that memory one of confidence and joy.”
Whether she is helping someone take their first breath underwater or mentoring a future PADI Instructor, Rachael brings patience, precision and enthusiasm to the training process.
Rachael’s favourite local dives include Bare Island, Oak Park, The Steps and Magic Point. These sites show why Sydney diving is so rewarding: accessible shore dives, varied marine life, reliable training environments and memorable boat dives such as grey nurse shark encounters at Magic Point.
Her local experience helps students and certified divers understand where to dive, what conditions to consider and which next step is right for their skill level.
Rachael’s certifications reflect a long career across recreational, professional, technical and emergency-response training.
Outside the dive centre, Rachael is a devoted mum to twin boys and an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys camping, snorkelling and spending time in nature with her family. Her connection with the ocean also shapes the way she teaches: with respect for the marine environment and a focus on safe, thoughtful diving.
Rachael’s experience makes her especially valuable for divers who want clear guidance on their next step. Beginners benefit from patient instruction, certified divers get practical advice on Sydney conditions and dive choices, and aspiring professionals can learn from a senior instructor trainer with decades of experience.
