Jordan Lewis

Meet Jordan Lewis – PADI Instructor, Underwater Photographer, and Sydney Diving Specialist

Jordan Lewis is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and one of the most passionate instructors at Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney. With a lifelong love of the ocean and a calm, encouraging teaching style, Jordan helps new and experienced divers alike discover the best of Sydney’s underwater world.

Experience and Qualifications

Originally from Newcastle, Jordan grew up snorkelling, swimming, and exploring the NSW coastline from Port Stephens to the north coast. His first dive as a teenager in Indonesia sparked a lifelong connection with the ocean. Since completing his PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water courses with Abyss, Jordan’s journey has taken him all the way through Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and into a professional career as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor and Master Scuba Diver Trainer.

Jordan has taught and guided hundreds of dives across Sydney’s iconic sites, including Oak Park, The Steps at Kurnell, and Magic Point. He also holds certification as a scuba equipment service technician for leading brands such as Atomic, Oceanic, Ocean Pro, and Avelo — a testament to his deep technical knowledge and commitment to safety.

Favourite Sydney Dive Sites

Ask Jordan where he loves to dive, and you’ll quickly hear about Sydney’s incredible marine life. Whether photographing weedy seadragons at Kurnell or searching for nudibranchs along the reef at Oak Park, he’s always got his camera ready to capture something new. His combination of patience, keen observation, and creative eye makes every guided dive a discovery.

Why I Love Teaching Diving

For Jordan, diving isn’t just a hobby — it’s a way to connect people with the ocean. He believes that confidence underwater starts with comfort and understanding, and he takes pride in seeing students progress from nervous beginners to independent divers. “The best part of teaching,” Jordan says, “is watching someone take their first breath underwater and realize there’s a whole new world waiting for them.”

His teaching philosophy centres on safety, enjoyment, and curiosity — helping students develop real-world diving skills that allow them to explore confidently anywhere in the world.

When He’s Not Teaching

Even on his days off, Jordan can usually be found underwater, exploring new dive sites or photographing Sydney’s diverse marine ecosystems. He’s also an active contributor to the local diving community, often assisting with underwater cleanups and marine awareness projects.

If you’re looking to Learn to Dive in Sydney or join a guided dive with an instructor who truly loves what he does, book a dive with Jordan and experience the ocean through his eyes.
