Your starting point

Which sounds most like you today?

You do not need to know a course name. Pick the statement closest to you.

Not sure which option fits? Ask an instructor for the simplest suitable next step.

A break does not send you back to the beginning.

Start with a supportive skills review and an easy first dive back. The right format depends on your experience, recency and current comfort—it is not a test.

Newly certified

Keep your next six dives close, suitable and achievable.

The first months after certification are about turning new skills into comfortable habits. Aim for one suitable dive within 30 days, at least two within 60 and six within 180. Choose beginner-friendly dates, no-buddy-required options and support that matches your present confidence.

Abyss Open Water students can ask their instructor at graduation to help sketch an initial three-dive plan. If you trained elsewhere, missed that handover or your circumstances have changed, start with a supported dive or ask our team to help you choose. Ready to work towards something specific? Choose a diving goal.

Dive 1 / 30 daysBook and complete your first supported post-course dive.
Dive 2 / 60 daysComplete at least two dives and make core routines feel familiar.
Dive 6 / 180 daysReach six dives, review your progress and choose what comes next.
Where Advanced can fit: Advanced can be a useful next step when its five supported dives match the experience you want to build. If your main priority is simply to keep diving, begin with a suitable supported date instead.

Training questions

Useful answers before you book.

Start with the question closest to you. Course pages confirm the exact requirements; an instructor can check anything individual.

I just finished Open Water. Should I do Advanced immediately?

Advanced can be an excellent way to gain five supported experiences, but it is not the only useful next step. Keep completing suitable dives while your skills are fresh, then choose Advanced when its dives match the experience you want to build. Abyss students can ask their instructor for help planning; all newly certified divers can use the beginner-friendly calendar or ask the team for a recommendation.

I was certified elsewhere. Can I train with Abyss?

Yes. Recognised equivalent certifications are welcome. Check the prerequisite on the individual course page or ask us if the equivalence is unclear.

I have not dived recently. Do I need a refresher?

It depends on the length of the break, your experience and how confident you feel. A refresher is a supportive return—not a test or a punishment.

I do not have a regular buddy. Can I still train and dive?

Yes. Abyss courses and guided dives allow you to participate without arranging your own buddy and can help you meet divers with similar experience and interests.

How do I know whether I meet a course prerequisite?

Use the prerequisite summary as a starting point, then check the individual course page before booking. Age, certification, first aid, logged dives, recent experience and medical requirements can vary. If anything is unclear, ask an instructor to confirm the simplest suitable route.

What if none of the current dates suit me?

Open the complete Training Calendar to compare the next six months. If a date is sold out, use its exact waitlist link; if no scheduled date works, ask an instructor about the next suitable option rather than booking a different course simply because its timing is easier.

Human judgement

Still unsure? Let an instructor check it.

Tell us your experience and goal. We’ll recommend a suitable course, refresher, supported dive—or no extra training yet.
