Dive with less effort
Improve balance and reduce unnecessary movement so your dives feel calmer, smoother and more controlled.
Master Neutral Buoyancy and Take Your Diving to the Next Level!
Have you admired divers who glide effortlessly, use less air, and interact gently with marine life? With the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course, you can become one of them. This course refines your buoyancy skills, helping you ascend, descend, or hover with precision while reducing your impact on the underwater environment.

PADI specialty course • Two training dives
Turn good buoyancy into instinctive control. Refine your weighting, trim, body position and breathing during two instructor-guided dives, then enjoy smoother movement, better efficiency and more respectful encounters with marine life.
Move less, notice more
Good buoyancy is the foundation of relaxed, controlled diving. When your weighting and trim are right, you can hold position with less effort, reduce drag and make smaller, more precise adjustments underwater.
The result can be better gas efficiency, less contact with the bottom and a calmer approach to reefs, marine life and underwater photography. This course gives you dedicated time to practise those skills with direct instructor feedback.
Comfort, control and care
Improve balance and reduce unnecessary movement so your dives feel calmer, smoother and more controlled.
Better streamlining and fewer large corrections can reduce exertion and help improve breathing efficiency.
Hold position and move around sensitive marine habitats with less risk of accidental contact or disturbance.
Skills you can use immediately
Work from the fundamentals of correct weighting through to controlled hovering and efficient movement.
Determine an appropriate amount of weight for your equipment, exposure protection and cylinder.
Adjust weight placement and gear position to improve horizontal trim and stability underwater.
Coordinate breathing and BCD adjustments to make controlled changes without repeated overcorrection.
Practise holding position in horizontal and other useful orientations without relying on your hands or fins.
Position hoses, gauges and accessories to reduce drag and keep equipment secure and accessible.
Use body position and deliberate fin movement to approach subjects or change direction with less disturbance.
Course structure
Finish the knowledge development before your training day so your in-water time can focus on practice, feedback and improvement.
Allow approximately two to four hours for the online buoyancy-control theory and knowledge development.
Review your equipment configuration, weighting and the skills you will practise during the dives.
Apply buoyancy checks, weight distribution, trim, hovering and movement techniques with coaching in the water.
Equipment for your dives
You need a complete scuba equipment set, including a cylinder, for the two training dives. If you do not own all the required equipment, arrange gear hire separately for your course date.
Why consistency matters: buoyancy changes with your exposure protection, cylinder and equipment configuration, so use the setup you expect to dive whenever practical.
Before you enrol
You must be at least 10 years old.
PADI Junior Open Water Diver, PADI Open Water Diver or an accepted equivalent certification.
You must be in suitable health for scuba diving and complete the required diver medical screening.
Common questions
Yes. Dedicated coaching can help experienced divers refine trim, equipment configuration, hovering and movement for photography, travel or advanced diving.
The course includes two training dives completed with your instructor.
The supplied course information states that divers without their own complete setup need to book equipment hire separately. Use the gear-hire link above when reserving your course.
Better trim and reduced exertion can help improve efficiency, but gas consumption also depends on depth, conditions, experience, breathing and other individual factors.
Using the equipment configuration you normally dive can make the training directly relevant. If you need hire gear, use the same setup for both course dives whenever possible.
Choose an available course date and give your buoyancy, trim and movement the focused practice they deserve.
