The open-ocean version
This is not snorkelling and it is not a surface swim. When we say “swim with sharks”, we mean a supervised scuba adventure below the surface at Bushrangers Bay, near Shellharbour.
First-time adventurers begin with equipment fitting, a safety briefing and the skills needed for the beginner program. An instructor then leads the group into the aquatic reserve for one supervised ocean dive. Qualified divers follow a separate two-dive program and can complete a PADI AWARE conservation specialty at no extra cost.
Grey nurse sharks are the main attraction, but they are wild animals rather than performers. You may also see wobbegongs, Port Jackson sharks, rays, blue gropers, reef fish, turtles or nudibranchs. The animals present, visibility and water conditions vary on every visit.

Bushrangers Bay Aquatic Reserve
Bushrangers Bay lies at Bass Point, roughly 90–120 minutes south of central Sydney depending on traffic. The shore-based location combines a sheltered aquatic reserve with genuine open-ocean conditions.
The protected area supports reef habitat, seagrass and a varied marine community. The exposed teeth of Australia’s grey nurse sharks can look dangerous, but these animals are generally calm when undisturbed. Wobbegongs, seasonal Port Jackson sharks, rays, gropers and schools of fish may also appear.
Because the reserve is natural, the exact dive plan depends on the weather, water movement, visibility and the group. Abyss will provide the meeting point and transport details for your chosen date.

Read before booking
Scuba diving can be physically demanding. You should be comfortable in open water and have a reasonable degree of swimming ability. If you are unsure whether your fitness or swimming ability is suitable, contact Abyss before choosing a date.
Every participant must review the diver medical questionnaire. Certain medical conditions, regular medications or recent illness may require clearance from a doctor. If you have diabetes or another ongoing condition, ask the Abyss team about the current process before purchase. A person who is unable to meet the medical, age or instructor-assessed safety requirements may not be permitted to dive.
Do not drink alcohol before the dive or arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you are planning to fly in an aircraft afterwards, ask about the appropriate no-fly interval before arranging travel. These precautions help ensure a safe, enjoyable day for you, the instructors and the group.
Grey nurse sharks are generally calm and non-aggressive when undisturbed, but no open-ocean wildlife activity is risk-free. Listen to the briefing, stay with your guide, avoid touching or chasing marine life and follow every direction underwater. Following these rules is essential.
