Does Dad need a scuba certification?
No. First-time divers join through the PADI Discover Scuba Diving pathway, with training, skills practice and direct supervision. Certified divers follow a separate two-dive pathway.
Is this a cage dive or an aquarium experience?
Neither. It is uncaged scuba diving below the surface in the open ocean at Bushrangers Bay Aquatic Reserve. There is no cage, glass wall or barrier.
Are grey nurse shark sightings guaranteed?
No. These are wild animals and they choose where they swim. Grey nurse sharks are regularly encountered at Bushrangers Bay, but species, numbers, behaviour, visibility and water conditions vary on every visit.
What is included?
The current experience includes training or guiding appropriate to Dad’s pathway, qualified dive professionals, standard scuba gear including a wetsuit, and professional digital photos. The live listing for the chosen departure is the final authority.
What are the current minimum ages?
The current Abyss minimum is 12 for non-certified participants and 10 for certified participants. Minors must be accompanied by a guardian. Recheck the live listing before booking.
What medical requirements apply?
Every participant must review the diver medical questionnaire and should have a reasonable degree of swimming ability and comfort in open water. Some answers, conditions or medications require a doctor’s clearance.
Where is Bushrangers Bay?
Bushrangers Bay Aquatic Reserve is at Bass Point near Shellharbour, roughly 90–120 minutes south of central Sydney depending on traffic. Optional return transport from Abyss in Ramsgate may be available on suitable dates; check the live departure details.
Can Dad choose the date after Father’s Day?
Yes. He does not need to dive on Sunday 6 September. Follow the redemption instructions supplied with the Adventure Pass and choose from the suitable live dates available.
