How your Sydney shore dive works
Choose your date
Select one of the live Friday, Saturday or Sunday listings above and complete your booking.
Prepare your gear
Bring your own equipment or add tanks and rental gear during booking. Most dates require two tanks.
Meet, brief and dive
Arrive on time for the briefing. The final plan is based on the site, conditions and the group's experience.
Who can join?
- You must be at least Open Water certified and show proof of certification on arrival.
- If you have fewer than 20 logged dives, you must have dived within the last 12 months.
- You must be medically fit to dive and able to sign the required liability waiver.
- You must arrive on time, with suitable equipment, ready for the dive briefing.
- Some sites or scheduled dives may require greater experience or a higher certification level; check the individual listing before booking.
Is a free group dive the right choice?
Choose this option if you are a currently certified diver who can manage your own equipment and core dive skills but would value local knowledge, a guided plan and a social group.
If you feel rusty or want to practise skills before returning to open water, start with the Scuba Refresher course. If you want individual attention, a quieter pace or a dive planned around your group, book a private guided shore dive.

Frequently asked questions
Is the guided shore dive really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the scheduled Divemaster guiding service. Air fills, tanks and any rental equipment you need are charged separately.
Can I join without a dive buddy?
Yes. Solo divers are welcome, and the Divemaster can help arrange buddy teams within the group on the day.
How many tanks should I bring?
Most scheduled outings include two dives, so most divers need two full tanks. Check the individual date listing and the booking options before finalising your order.
Can the dive site change?
Yes. Sydney shore diving depends on weather and sea conditions. Abyss may change the dive plan or site when required for safety and suitability.
