What the package includes

Why Tec 40 is shown separately: the Master Scuba Diver rating requires five PADI Specialty Diver certifications. Tec 40 is a TecRec certification, so this package retains all five recreational specialties and adds Tec 40 alongside them.

What Tec 40 adds to your pathway

PADI Tec 40 introduces the planning, equipment and team skills used in technical diving. Successful completion qualifies divers to make limited-decompression dives to 40 metres and use up to 50 percent oxygen as a decompression gas.

Tec 40 entry requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, or qualifying equivalent
  • PADI Enriched Air Diver, or qualifying equivalent
  • PADI Deep Diver or proof of 10 dives to 30 metres or deeper
  • At least 30 logged dives
  • Diver Medical Form signed by a physician within the previous 12 months

You may not be ready to begin Tec 40 immediately. Abyss will schedule it only after its certification, dive-experience and medical requirements are met.

Master Scuba Diver and Tec 40 are separate achievements. The MSD rating requires at least 50 logged dives; Tec 40 has its own 30-dive, age and medical entry requirements.

Are Rescue Diver and EFR included?

No. This is a Top-Up Package for divers who already hold Rescue Diver and qualifying CPR and first-aid training.

Does Tec 40 replace one of the five specialties?

No. The package retains five qualifying PADI Specialty Diver certifications and includes Tec 40 as a separate technical-diving course.

Can I start before I have 30 logged dives?

You can complete suitable recreational training first. Tec 40 will be scheduled only after you meet its age, certification, experience and medical requirements.

Do I receive the Master Scuba Diver rating automatically?

No. You must hold the required certifications and provide evidence of at least 50 logged dives before the rating can be processed.

Is equipment included?

No. The package price covers the listed training only. Equipment rental and gear hire are not included, and Tec 40 has specific equipment requirements.

How long do I have to complete the courses?

All courses included in the package must be completed within 12 months of booking.

Package terms and conditions
  • The package includes the five qualifying PADI Specialty Diver courses listed on this page, PADI Tec 40 and the bonus Recreational Avelo Diver Course.
  • Rescue Diver and Emergency First Response are not included. The diver must already hold Rescue Diver or a qualifying equivalent and qualifying CPR and first-aid training.
  • Tec 40 and Recreational Avelo Diver do not replace any of the five qualifying PADI Specialty Diver certifications.
  • Tec 40 training is subject to meeting all current PADI prerequisites, including minimum age, certifications, logged-dive experience and a physician-signed medical form.
  • The course fee covers training only. Equipment rental and gear hire are not included.
  • All included courses must be completed within 12 months of the booking date.
  • Receiving the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating requires proof of the required certifications and at least 50 logged dives.
