Ahmed El Sayed

Meet Ahmed El Sayed – PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer in Sydney
Ahmed El Sayed is a dedicated PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer with a lifelong connection to the ocean. Now part of the teaching team at Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney, Ahmed combines technical precision with heartfelt passion, helping new divers discover the same sense of wonder that first inspired him beneath the waves.
Experience and Qualifications
Ahmed’s diving journey began in Egypt’s Red Sea, where he first explored the underwater world at just seven years old. By twelve, he was scuba diving in Sharm El Sheikh — an experience that shaped his lifelong relationship with the sea. His formal training took place in Dahab, Egypt, where he earned his PADI Divemaster certification under the guidance of two respected mentors, Mezo and Olesh. Their lessons on discipline, mindfulness, and ocean respect still guide his teaching today.
After relocating to Australia to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ahmed joined Abyss Scuba Diving and advanced his training to become a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer. With years of experience teaching in both tropical and temperate waters, he brings a structured yet relaxed approach to his classes — ideal for students learning to dive in Sydney’s unique marine environments.
Favourite Sydney Dive Sites
Ahmed loves exploring Sydney’s diverse underwater landscapes, from the playful weedy sea dragons at Bare Island to the dramatic swim-throughs at The Steps in Kurnell. He especially enjoys sharing local shore dives with beginners, helping them gain confidence while experiencing the incredible marine life that makes Sydney one of the world’s most underrated dive destinations.
Why I Love Teaching Diving
For Ahmed, teaching scuba diving isn’t just about mastering buoyancy or safety skills — it’s about creating moments of transformation. “There’s nothing quite like seeing that first spark in a student’s eyes when they take their first breath underwater,” he says. “It’s a reminder of why I fell in love with diving in the first place.”
His teaching philosophy blends patience, safety, and curiosity. He believes that every dive — whether a student’s first or a professional-level course — should build confidence and deepen one’s connection to the ocean.
Beyond the Water
When he’s not teaching, Ahmed balances his passion for diving with a full-time career as a mechanical engineer. He’s also an avid traveler who dreams of diving Iceland’s Silfra fissure — one of the few places on Earth where you can literally swim between continents.
