Marcus’s journey
From Jervis Bay teenager to PADI professional
Marcus began diving at 16, earning his Advanced Open Water certification in Jervis Bay. He later completed an accounting degree and began a corporate career, but diving remained the part of life that kept calling him back.
Through an Abyss professional diving internship, Marcus built the experience and qualifications that took him from Divemaster to PADI Instructor and then Master Scuba Diver Trainer.

Different environments, one enduring fascination
Marcus has logged hundreds of dives across temperate Sydney, tropical reefs, historic wrecks and cold-water landscapes. Each environment has strengthened his adaptability and his respect for careful dive planning.
Malapascua, Philippines
Early starts and open-water encounters with thresher sharks delivered one of his most memorable marine-life experiences.
Silfra, Iceland
Silfra’s cold, exceptionally clear freshwater fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates provided a dramatic contrast to tropical diving.
Great Barrier Reef
Working aboard Mike Ball’s liveaboard Spoilsport gave Marcus experience supporting dive operations across some of Australia’s best-known offshore sites.
Sydney underwater
The small encounters are often the best
Marcus enjoys Sydney’s mix of shore and boat diving, but Bare Island has a special pull. One memorable favourite was the local seahorse divers affectionately called “Golden Boy.”
A self-confessed Blue Planet enthusiast, Marcus takes inspiration from David Attenborough’s storytelling and believes divers enjoy the ocean more when they slow down, notice behaviour and treat marine life with care.
