Meet Wei Wei – PADI Instructor and Passionate Sydney Diving Educator

Wei Wei is a dedicated PADI Open Water Instructor at Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney, known for his precision, patience, and warm teaching style. With an engineering background and a deep passion for ocean life, Wei helps new divers gain confidence underwater — especially within Sydney’s growing Chinese-speaking diving community.

Experience and Qualifications

Before becoming a dive professional, Wei explored some of the world’s most iconic marine destinations — from the Maldives and Palau to Fiji, Indonesia, and the Azores. His diving journey began in 2017 when he earned his PADI Open Water certification in Anilao, Philippines. Inspired by the incredible biodiversity he encountered, Wei advanced quickly through the ranks, becoming a PADI Divemaster in 2019 and completing his PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Abyss Scuba Diving in 2023.

Wei’s technical background as an electronic engineer gives him a uniquely methodical approach to instruction. He combines logical explanations with calm, reassuring guidance — making complex diving concepts simple and fun for every student.

Specialties and Teaching Style

As a Chinese-speaking PADI Instructor, Wei plays an important role in introducing Sydney’s Mandarin-speaking community to the underwater world. His teaching philosophy centers on patience, safety, and curiosity — helping divers understand not only how to dive but also why marine conservation matters. He’s especially passionate about helping new divers take their first breaths underwater with confidence and respect for the ocean.

Wei believes that “every dive is an opportunity to learn something new — about yourself, your environment, and the incredible world beneath the surface.” His classes are known for being calm, well-structured, and full of encouragement.

Favourite Sydney Dive Sites

Wei loves exploring Sydney’s stunning local dive sites, particularly The Steps and Oak Park, where he often helps students spot playful weedy sea dragons, blue gropers, and other local marine life. Whether it’s a shore dive or a seal dive adventure, Wei brings both enthusiasm and expertise to every dive.
