This Abyss Scuba Diving End of Year adventure takes you to Lissenung Island Resort, a private tropical island near Kavieng where the diving is the main event — sharks, pelagics, coral reefs, drift dives, WWII wrecks, muck diving and unlimited daytime house-reef diving right from the island.

This is the kind of trip divers dream about: wake up on a tiny island surrounded by reef, head out for guided boat dives through current-fed passages and coral walls, then come back and keep diving the house reef until sunset. With 8 guided boat dives included plus unlimited daytime house-reef diving, this is a true dive-first tropical escape.

Kavieng diving has variety, energy and excitement. One dive might bring pelagic fish and shark action at Albatross Passage, another might take you over a WWII wreck, through a drift dive, along a coral wall or into the tiny world of macro and muck diving. It is relaxed island life above the water, but underwater it is pure PNG adventure.

Price is per person, ex Sydney. Budget Bungalow places are very limited, so please book early if this is your preferred option.

The Diving

The diving around Kavieng is what makes this trip so exciting. Expect a mix of reef, wreck, wall, drift, macro and pelagic diving, with sites that can deliver big-fish encounters as well as the small hidden critters that make PNG such a rewarding destination.

Albatross Passage is known for current-fed action and the chance to see pelagic life. The region also offers caves, drift dives and World War II wrecks, including the Der Yang fishing boat. For photographers and patient divers, the muck and macro diving gives you a completely different way to explore the area.

Between the boat dives, the island’s house reef gives you the freedom to keep diving during the day. Do the boat dives, come back for lunch, then slip back into the water from the island for more reef time. This is why the trip is better described as unlimited diving, including 8 guided boat dives.

The Resort

Lissenung Island Resort is a dedicated dive resort with its own fully equipped dive centre and dive boats. The island is small, relaxed and surrounded by tropical water — the kind of place where the rhythm of the day becomes simple: dive, eat, relax, dive again.

The eco-friendly buildings are built in traditional style with thatched roofs and woven bamboo walls, blending naturally with the island environment. The main house, or “haus win”, is the social centre of the resort, where cold drinks and fresh meals are served after a day in the water.
