Rooming determines the family price
The child discount is an occupancy discount, not an automatic discount for every child. The first two occupants of each room use the applicable standard diver or non-diver package rate, regardless of age. Discounted child rates apply only to eligible children under 14 occupying places three or four in that same room.
| Example family | How it is priced | What must be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| 2 adults + 1 child | 2 standard places + 1 eligible extra-child place | Diver status, room type and bedding |
| 2 adults + 2 children | 2 standard places + up to 2 eligible extra-child places | A four-person room and suitable bedding |
| 1 adult + 1 child | 2 standard places; no extra-child rate | The applicable diver/non-diver rate for each guest |
| 1 adult + 2 children | 2 standard places + 1 eligible extra-child place | Supervision, room type and bedding |
| 2 adults + 3 children | A second room is required | Ask Abyss for an exact two-room quote |
Every room must be confirmed by Abyss. Room capacity, bedding, each child’s age at travel and diver/non-diver status determine the final quote. Prices above are current starting prices and remain subject to availability and written confirmation. A single supplement is currently A$110 per night when available.
Check the family fit before paying a deposit
Age alone does not decide whether a junior diver is suitable. Certification, recent diving, depth and buddy restrictions, confidence, the available adult supervision and current local conditions all matter.
Minimum certification: every booked diver must hold Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver or an accepted equivalent. Recent diving is recommended, and every diver must be medically fit, complete the required forms and stay within their certification, experience and comfort limits.
Junior divers aged 10–11
A PADI Junior Open Water Diver aged 10 or 11 must dive with a PADI Professional or a certified parent or guardian, and may not exceed 12 metres. Equivalent qualifications are reviewed against their issuing agency’s rules. Abyss’s own trip supervision policy must also be met.
Junior divers aged 12–14
A PADI Junior Open Water Diver aged 12 to 14 must remain within the depth allowed by their certification and training. The current Abyss trip policy requires parent or guardian supervision, and Abyss must confirm the proposed buddy and supervision plan before booking.
Non-diving children
Non-diving children need responsible adult supervision. Abyss must confirm who will supervise them and whether any boat place or other arrangement is available for the departure.
Tell us about every traveller
- Names and each child’s age at travel
- Diver or non-diver status
- Certification and recent diving for every diver
- Which parent or guardian will supervise each junior diver, including that adult’s certification where relevant
- Who will supervise non-diving children while others dive
- Preferred room groupings and bedding needs
What Abyss will check
- Whether the available trip format suits the group
- Junior-diver age, certification, depth and buddy limits
- Room occupancy, bedding and child-rate eligibility
- The exact package price for each traveller
- Any refresher, equipment or preparation needs
- The next safe step before a deposit is paid
Site suitability is decided dive by dive. Certification alone does not make every site or route suitable. The local guide may use a shallower route, an exterior route or a different site according to age limits, certification, experience, current and sea conditions.

A shared holiday with diving for certified family members
Eight boat dives are planned. Exact sites, times and routes are chosen according to weather, sea state, current, visibility, local advice, each diver’s certification and the comfort of the group.
Planned diving areas
Moso Island reefs, Hat Island / Eretoka and Paul’s Rock may be considered. No particular site is guaranteed, and Paul’s Rock will be used only when conditions and group suitability allow.
Routes matched to the diver
The guide selects appropriate depths and terrain. Any swim-through is optional and guide-approved; an exterior or alternative route remains available.
Wildlife remains wild
Tropical reef fish, coral and possible turtle sightings can be part of the week, but visibility, wildlife and particular encounters cannot be guaranteed.
Typical rhythm, not a fixed itinerary: arrival and briefing; four planned dive days for booked divers; a no-fly day with time for the accommodation, kayaks or locally confirmed activities; then the return airport transfer. Weather, flights and local arrangements may change the order.
Time together beyond the dive boat
The value of this format is that divers and non-divers share the same accommodation and island stay. The final daily plan should leave each family clear about who is diving, who is supervising children and when the group can spend time together.
Accommodation and downtime
Air-conditioned accommodation, the pool, ocean outlook and resort kayaks create options between scheduled activities. Room layout and bedding remain subject to the family’s confirmed booking.
Local activities
A village tour is included. Any school or community visit depends on local arrangements, permission and suitability for that departure. Optional activities and personal transport are not automatically included.

Family Trip questions
How do the discounted child rates work?
The first two occupants of each room use the applicable standard diver or non-diver rate, regardless of age. A child under 14 receives the extra-child rate only as the third or fourth occupant in that same room. Abyss must confirm age eligibility, room capacity and bedding.
What if one adult travels with one child?
That room uses two standard package places, so the extra-child rate does not apply. The actual prices depend on whether each traveller is a diver or non-diver.
Can a Junior Open Water Diver join?
Potentially, yes. Abyss must first check age, certification, recent diving, confidence, depth limits, parent or guardian supervision and the planned group. Relevant training-agency rules also apply, and not every site or route will suit every junior diver.
Can non-diving children join?
Non-diving children may travel subject to rooming and supervision arrangements. A responsible accompanying adult must supervise them, and Abyss must confirm whether any boat place or other arrangement is available.
Are Moso Island, Hat Island or Paul’s Rock guaranteed?
No. They are possible diving areas. Weather, sea state, current, visibility, local access and the suitability of each diver determine the final site and route.
What meals are included?
Continental breakfast is included each morning. Lunches, dinners and drinks are not included unless the selected departure states otherwise.
Is dive-equipment hire included?
Tanks and weights are included for booked divers. Other personal dive equipment is not included unless stated in the confirmed booking. Arrange any required rental equipment with Abyss before departure.
When should we book flights?
Do not book international flights until Abyss has confirmed your rooming and place and confirmed in writing that the departure is proceeding. Flights are not included in the package price.
What are the deposit and final-payment terms?
The deposit is A$500 per person after Abyss confirms your arrangements. The published balance deadline is 60 days before departure. Review the Abyss overseas trip terms and conditions before paying.
Is this the best Vanuatu format for an adult-only dive group?
Adult-only groups may join if the available rooming and trip format suit them, but divers wanting a longer, dive-led week should compare the seven-night Vanuatu Full Dive Week.
