Diving internship FAQs

You can join the Divemaster Internship from Open Water Diver or equivalent. We build the required Advanced, Rescue, first aid and dive experience into your plan before the formal Divemaster stage.

For the professional course stages:

• Divemaster: Advanced and Rescue Diver or qualifying equivalents, with 40 logged dives to start and 60 to qualify.
• OWSI and OWSI + MSDT: Divemaster or a qualifying leadership certification, at least 60 logged dives and at least six months since your first diver certification.
• Both: age 18 or over, first aid and CPR within 24 months, and physician-signed medical clearance within 12 months.

Divemaster: the required course pathway, program diving, tanks, weights and air fills, program-specific PADI fees, mentoring and course assistance.

OWSI: IDC and EFR Instructor training, required IDC materials, included PADI applications and examination fees, Enriched Air Instructor training, program diving, tanks and weights, and mentored teaching experience.

OWSI + MSDT: the OWSI pathway, five preset Specialty Instructor ratings, their applications, the MSDT application and the planned certification experience.

The combined pathway’s outcome is PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (MSDT). You must be a PADI Instructor, hold five qualifying Specialty Instructor ratings and have issued at least 25 qualifying PADI diver certifications. The rating is awarded after PADI approves your application.

The five preset specialties are Enriched Air, Deep, Sidemount, Dry Suit and Night. Mentored teaching with real students helps you build the required experience. See PADI’s MSDT requirements.

The Divemaster Internship offers full-time and part-time options. Instructor internships are normally full-time and planned around the IDC, Instructor Examination and student-course schedule.

Budget for personal diving and safety equipment, your dive medical, professional indemnity insurance, Sydney accommodation and meals, transport, flights, visas, travel or dive insurance, and personal expenses.

Plan to own suitable personal equipment. Tanks and weights are included, and the Divemaster package includes five days of equipment hire if needed. Tell us what you already have so we can help you prepare.

Yes. The optional 28-day experience costs an additional A$1,000 and is added to your Sydney training time. Build experience with visiting divers, warm-water reefs and a tropical destination dive centre on Moso Island.

• Breakfast, lunch and dinner (cooked together as a team).
• Minimum 20 dives, subject to safe operating conditions.

Primarily offered with OWSI + MSDT. Ask about adding it to Divemaster or OWSI. Return flights, personal equipment, insurance and personal expenses are separate. Your advisor confirms dates, availability and full inclusions in your written plan.

Sydney accommodation is separate. Ramsgate, Kogarah and Brighton-Le-Sands are nearby areas to consider. Tell us your budget and whether you will have a vehicle, and we can discuss options.

Budget for daily travel to the dive centre and training locations. The Divemaster package includes return Sydney Airport transfers; Instructor candidates should confirm arrival arrangements in their plan.

Yes. Before booking travel, check that your visa permits the full training period and every planned activity, including practical experience. An internship does not itself provide Australian work rights.

This is a fee-paying training program. You gain supervised experience with real divers and students, professional mentoring, résumé guidance and job-search support.

These experiences help you prepare for professional roles; employment depends on your qualifications, performance, vacancies and work rights. A job is not guaranteed.
