Sydney scuba gear rental

Rent Dive Gear for Your Next Sydney Dive

Hire the gear you need for this dive. When you start diving more regularly, we’ll also help you work out what is worth owning first — and what can wait.

Renting is a smart way to keep diving while you build confidence, try different equipment, and learn what actually helps you feel warmer, more comfortable and more familiar underwater. The goal is not to buy everything at once. The goal is to buy the right gear at the right time.

Online Rental Prices

We offer a full range of high-quality rental gear for certified divers and snorkellers. Book and pay online to secure the discounted online rental rate.

  • Scuba Tank Rental: $25.00
  • Snorkelling Gear Hire — mask, snorkel, fins and boots: $33.00
  • Wetsuit Hire: $27.50
  • Full Scuba Equipment Hire — regulator, BCD, dive computer and weights: $72.50
Still renting regularly?
That is not a problem — it is useful information. It usually means you are diving enough to start asking which pieces would make your next few dives easier. We can help you decide what to keep renting, what to buy first, and what is not worth buying yet.

The Abyss Rental-to-Ownership Pathway

Every diver’s timing is different. Use rental gear while you are building experience, then phase ownership around comfort, fit, confidence and how often you actually dive in Sydney.

1

Rent First

Best when you are newly certified, diving occasionally, returning after a break, travelling light, or trying different setups before you buy.

2

Own Personal-Fit Gear

Start with the pieces that affect comfort most: mask, snorkel, fins, boots and wetsuit. Fit matters more than colour or price.

3

Add Confidence Gear

If you are diving more often, a dive computer, SMB, whistle, compass and practical accessories help you become a more confident local diver.

4

Build Your Core Setup

When you are diving regularly, your own regulator and BCD can make each dive feel more familiar, streamlined and consistent.

What Your Rental Gear Can Tell You

After your next dive, take note of what felt easy and what felt annoying. Those answers are often the best guide to what you should own first.

  • Did your mask leak, fog, or feel uncomfortable?
  • Were you cold during the dive or between dives?
  • Did your fins or boots rub, slip or feel inefficient?
  • Did the BCD fit, hose routing or weighting feel awkward?
  • Would using the same dive computer each time help your confidence?
  • Are you planning another Sydney shore or boat dive soon?

Bring those answers back to the Abyss team when you return your gear. We’ll help you make a sensible next-step plan.

Ask Before You Buy

Before you buy scuba gear anywhere else, ask Abyss first. We can help you compare price, fit, comfort, Sydney diving suitability, warranty, serviceability and whether the gear suits your current stage of diving.

No pressure. No need to buy a full kit. Just practical advice from people who teach, guide, service and dive in Sydney conditions.

When Should You Keep Renting?

Renting is still the right choice if you are diving only occasionally, testing whether diving will become a regular habit, travelling light, or not yet sure what type of gear suits you. We would rather help you rent confidently than push you into gear too early.

When Should You Start Owning Gear?

Ownership starts to make sense when the same rental issues keep appearing: mask leaks, poor wetsuit fit, feeling cold, unfamiliar controls, setup inconsistency, or missing dives because organising equipment feels like too much effort. Start with the gear that removes the biggest barrier to your next dive.

  4. Complete payment online to secure the online rental rate.
