What is a PADI Mermaid course and how does it work?

The PADI Mermaid course is an internationally recognised program that teaches participants how to swim like a mermaid using a monofin and tail. You’ll learn proper technique, safe breath-hold practices, mermaid diving skills, and have plenty of time for fun underwater poses and play — both in the pool and open water.

Can anyone become a mermaid?

Yes! Anyone aged 6 and up who is comfortable in the water can take a mermaid course. At Abyss, we offer beginner and advanced options tailored for both kids and adults. You don’t need any prior dive or swim experience — just a love for the ocean and imagination.

Do I need to be a good swimmer to take a mermaid course?

You should be able to swim at least 25 metres without stopping and be comfortable floating in the water for a few minutes. You don’t need to be an expert swimmer — the course is designed to build water confidence while learning fun mermaid skills in a safe setting.

Is the PADI Mermaid course suitable for children?
