Divers building confidence together during professional training

More than a course

What the experience feels like

You grow into the responsibility. Expect active days, real responsibility and steady progress as you prepare, dive, assist, debrief and improve beside people who work in diving every day. The change is gradual but unmistakable: stronger judgement, calmer leadership and the confidence to become the professional other divers can rely on.

Five short answers

PADI Professional Internship FAQs

Which internship should I choose?

If you are a recreational diver, start with the Divemaster Internship. If you are already a Divemaster, choose OWSI to become an Instructor or OWSI + MSDT for broader specialty-teaching qualifications. If you are unsure, ask an Advisor to map the pathway with you.

Do I need to meet every prerequisite before enquiring?

No. Tell us your current certification, approximate dive count, recent experience, medical and first-aid position, and preferred dates. An Advisor can identify any gaps and show where they fit in your plan.

What is the difference between OWSI and OWSI + MSDT?

OWSI is the core PADI Instructor rating. The combined pathway adds five Specialty Instructor ratings and the mentored certification experience needed to apply for MSDT. MSDT is awarded only after its PADI requirements are met and the application is approved.

What do I need to arrange separately?

Exact inclusions vary by pathway. Generally plan separately for personal dive and safety equipment, professional indemnity insurance, a diving medical, Sydney accommodation, meals, travel, visa and living costs. Your personalised plan confirms the exact position before you pay.

Does completing an internship guarantee me a job?

No. Abyss provides structured training, practical experience and mentoring. Instructor pathways also include résumé support and career guidance. Employers make their own hiring decisions, and you must hold the legal right to work in the place where you apply.
