IDC vs Instructor Internship

Both pathways can lead to instructor certification, but they are not the same experience.

Standard IDC

Focuses on instructor development, standards, teaching presentations, confined water, open water and preparation for the Instructor Examination.

Dive Instructor Internship

Includes IDC preparation plus EFR Instructor training, team teaching, student certifications, shop experience, business workshops, resume support and job-placement guidance.

Before You Pay Your Deposit

This program is designed for divers who are already at leadership level and ready to move into instructor-level training. Contact us before booking if you are unsure whether you meet the requirements.

Professional Rating

You should be a PADI Divemaster, PADI Assistant Instructor or hold an equivalent qualifying leadership rating.

Certified Diver for 6+ Months

PADI IDC candidates must have been certified divers for at least six months before enrolling.

Logged Dives

You need at least 60 logged dives to start the IDC and 100 logged dives to attend the Instructor Examination.

Current Medical

You need a medical statement signed by a physician within the past 12 months.

EFR / CPR and First Aid

You need Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care training within the past 24 months, or you need to complete or refresh it before certification requirements are finalised.

Equipment and Materials

You need your own full dive gear, all previous certification records and required study materials. Tanks and weights are provided.

Coming From Interstate or Overseas

Allow time to organise accommodation, travel, gear, medicals, visas and course materials before the program begins. Contact us early if your dates are fixed.

Important visa note

Visa rules depend on your passport, age, length of stay and whether you plan to work while in Australia. A Visitor visa or Electronic Travel Authority does not allow work in Australia. Working Holiday and Work and Holiday visas may allow short-term work and study, depending on your eligibility and visa conditions. Always check the Australian Department of Home Affairs before booking flights or accepting work.

A standard IDC prepares you for instructor certification. The Instructor Internship includes IDC preparation plus EFR Instructor training, practical team teaching, real dive centre experience, business and marketing workshops, resume support and job-placement help.

What are the prerequisites?

You should be a PADI Divemaster or hold an equivalent qualifying leadership rating, be at least 18 years old, have been a certified diver for at least six months, have the required logged dives, hold current medical clearance, and have appropriate EFR / CPR and First Aid training.

How many dives do I need?
