A seven-night Vanuatu freediving week for freedivers choosing between guided recreational freediving and PADI Advanced Freediver training. Both programs share five boat days and the island experience with the Abyss scuba group while following separate freediving briefings, supervision and in-water plans. Abyss confirms the experience or certification required for your chosen program.
Choose your program before booking: recreational freediving is included in the base package. The PADI Advanced Freediver add-on is A$499—normally A$599—and includes digital learning, two pre-trip Sydney training days and three planned coached open-water sessions in Vanuatu. From A$2,595 per freediver, twin-share, land-only. Reserve with an A$500 deposit. International flights are not included. Do not book flights until Abyss has confirmed your place and that the departure is proceeding.
This trip is for freedivers choosing between a guided recreational week and PADI Advanced Freediver training. You may share the boat, accommodation and island experience with the Abyss scuba group, but the freediving program has its own briefings, supervision, buddy procedures and in-water plan.
Land-only package. International flights are not included. Do not book flights until Abyss has confirmed your place and that the departure is proceeding.
Two freediving programs, one Vanuatu week
Choose the experience you want before booking. The recreational program is included in the base trip. Advanced Freediver is a separately selected A$499 training add-on with prerequisites and performance requirements.
Included in the base trip
Guided Recreational Freediving
For certified freedivers, or people whose recent freediving training and experience Abyss approves, who want tropical reef exploration without course assessments.
Five planned boat days with guided reef freediving
Shallow orientation and buddy-procedure review
Technique coaching and optional line work when suitable
Marine-life observation and photography within the day’s limits
No required depth, performance target or certification outcome
Recreational Freediving is the base trip option. Open the booking choices, select the current departure and leave the Advanced Freediver add-on unselected. Abyss will still confirm your certification or relevant experience.
For PADI Freedivers or qualifying equivalent freedivers aged 15 or older who want structured training and an opportunity to earn the next certification.
PADI digital learning
Two planned pre-trip Sydney training days
Three planned coached open-water sessions in Vanuatu
Advanced equalisation, technique, buddy and rescue development
Certification is performance-based and is not guaranteed
In the enquiry message, write Advanced Freediver and include your current freediving certification and availability for the Sydney training.
Why confirm the program first? Abyss checks your certification, recent experience, course prerequisites, staffing and program capacity before confirming the recreational or Advanced pathway.
How the shared-boat week works
The social trip can travel together while scuba and freediving remain separate in the water. The exact freediving area may be near the scuba site rather than directly over it.
Separate supervision
Freedivers receive their own briefing, buddy assignments, session limits and surface-safety plan. They are not treated as part of the scuba group underwater.
Conditions choose the water
Weather, current, visibility, boat traffic, local advice, staffing and participant ability determine the site, depth, sequence and duration of each session.
Safety before itinerary
If a scuba site cannot support safe freediving, the freediving session may move to a sheltered nearby area, run sequentially, be shortened or be cancelled.
Line sessions support technique and Advanced training; the location and depth are chosen for conditions, staffing and participant suitability.
How the eight-day trip may flow
This is the intended freediving rhythm, not a guaranteed site order. The instructor may change the sequence for weather, safe operating conditions or student progress.
Day 1 — Arrive and settle inPort Vila arrival, transfer to the accommodation, equipment check and trip briefing.
Day 2 — Freediving orientationShallow checkout, weighting, entries, exits, recovery breathing and buddy procedures. Advanced students also review course technique and goals.
Day 3 — First full program dayGuided reef freediving for the recreational group; the first planned Advanced open-water session for course students.
Day 4 — Technique and explorationRecreational reef or line opportunities; progressive Advanced technique, equalisation, buddy and rescue work.
Day 5 — Continue the chosen programCondition-selected reef exploration for recreational freedivers; a further planned Advanced open-water session and consolidation.
Day 6 — Final scheduled water dayA best-of-the-week recreational session, further coaching or Advanced course contingency when required.
Day 7 — Recovery and island timeNo planned deep or performance freediving. Enjoy the included village tour, kayaks, pool or locally confirmed activities.
Day 8 — DepartureBreakfast, equipment check and the included return transfer toward Port Vila airport.
Sites are never guaranteed. Moso Island, Hat Island and Paul’s Rock may be considered, but the freediving team chooses water that suits the actual conditions and participants. Wildlife and water clarity also vary.
Before choosing Advanced Freediver
Entry requirements
Minimum age 15
PADI Freediver or a qualifying equivalent certification
Medical screening and all course paperwork completed
Current CPR and first-aid training within the previous 24 months is recommended
Availability for the planned pre-trip Sydney training
What completion requires
The course develops static and dynamic apnea, free immersion, constant-weight technique, advanced buddy procedures and rescue skills. Certification requires the student to safely complete all required knowledge, confined-water, open-water, safety, rescue and performance objectives.
Weather, health or individual progress may prevent completion during the planned schedule. Further training can be required.
Advanced Freediver performance objectives
Published adult objectives include a 2 minute 30 second static apnea, 50 metre dynamic apnea and 20 metre constant-weight freedive. For students aged 15–17, the objectives are adjusted to 2 minutes static, 40 metres dynamic and 15 metres constant weight, with a 20 metre maximum. These are supervised certification objectives, not targets for recreational guests.
Course price: A$499 when added to this trip, normally A$599. The final Sydney and Vanuatu training dates, instructor capacity and included course equipment must be confirmed by Abyss.

Freediver readiness and safety
Before the trip
Provide your freediving certification and recent experience
Tell Abyss your comfortable recent depth and any equalisation concerns
Complete the required medical and participant forms
Arrange equipment hire, sizing and servicing well before travel
Follow the active buddy system and every site, depth and session limit
Optional scuba for crossover divers
Two scuba dives on the final scheduled boat day may be available to appropriately certified divers by prior arrangement. They are not a third freediving program or a native package option.
Abyss requires at least 18 hours after the final repetitive or multi-day freediving session before optional scuba, and the trip leader may require longer. Participants do not combine meaningful freediving and scuba on the same day. Certification, timing, cost, equipment, conditions and the boat plan must all be confirmed before travel.
Morning sessions leave room for recovery and the shared Vanuatu experience. The exact rhythm depends on the boat plan, conditions and training needs.
Recover well
Hydrate, eat, rest and use the accommodation pool or ocean outlook between active days.
Explore locally
Use the resort kayaks, join the included village tour or ask which optional local activities are confirmed for the departure.
Travel companions
Ask Abyss for a current quote before assuming a non-diver place, room match or single supplement is available; these are not native booking options on this product.
Vanuatu Freediving Week questions
Is the base trip a freediving course?
No. The base option is a guided recreational freediving program without required course assessments, performance targets or a certification outcome. Certification or recent experience must still be confirmed by Abyss.
How do I add PADI Advanced Freediver?
First ask Abyss to confirm your prerequisite certification, Sydney training availability and course capacity. The A$499 Advanced Freediver add-on can then be selected with the trip booking or added by prior arrangement.
Is Advanced Freediver certification guaranteed?
No. Certification is performance-based. All required knowledge, confined-water, open-water, buddy, safety, rescue and performance requirements must be completed. Weather or individual progress may make further training necessary.
Are daily coaching and mobility sessions included?
Equalisation coaching plus stretching and mobility sessions are planned on active freediving days. Their timing and format may change with the boat schedule, staffing, conditions and recovery needs.
Can I scuba during the week?
Possibly, if you are appropriately certified and arrange it before travel. Optional final-day scuba is not a native package option. It requires the confirmed freedive-to-scuba interval, no meaningful freediving on the scuba day, suitable conditions, boat capacity, equipment and any additional payment.
Are Moso Island, Hat Island or Paul’s Rock guaranteed?
No. They are possible areas, not guaranteed freediving sites. Weather, current, visibility, boat traffic, local advice, staffing and participant suitability determine the final water plan.
Is personal freediving equipment included?
Bring your own suitable freediving equipment or arrange hire before departure. Course buoy, line, lanyard and safety equipment for the Advanced add-on must be confirmed with Abyss.
Should I book flights now?
No. International flights are separate. Wait until Abyss has confirmed your program, place and that the departure is proceeding.
