The current Abyss IDC structure combines online evening preparation with seven consecutive in-person training days. Because that block includes two weekends, candidates normally need five weekdays away from work. The PADI Instructor Examination is scheduled separately.

Conservation is built into professional development. PADI Assistant Instructors and higher are automatically eligible to teach the Dive Against Debris Specialty, helping divers turn ocean conservation into practical action.

PADI introduced that automatic eligibility on 1 July 2024. Assistant Instructors teach the specialty under the direction of a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor; PADI Freediver and Mermaid Instructors follow a separate application pathway.

What Should You Confirm Before Enrolling?
