Frequently asked questions
Which PADI course should a complete beginner choose?
Start with the PADI Open Water course. No previous scuba certification is required, but normal swimming, medical and course-completion requirements still apply.
Can I continue training if I was certified by another agency?
Yes, recognised equivalent certifications are accepted for many continuing courses. Check the prerequisite on the individual page or ask Abyss to confirm your exact qualification before booking.
What if I have not dived for a while?
A scuba refresher may be more useful than immediately starting a demanding new course. The best format depends on the length of your break, experience and present comfort.
Will I need a dive medical?
Medical requirements vary by activity and individual circumstances. Complete the required participant questionnaire and obtain medical clearance if the questionnaire, course standards or Abyss instructions direct you to do so.
Is scuba equipment included with every course?
No single rule applies to every course. Equipment inclusions, required personal items and available hire differ, so use the individual course page as the current source of truth.

Are freediving, Mermaid and scientific diving part of the same scuba pathway?
No. Freediving and Mermaid training are distinct aquatic pathways, while AHCLPW307 scientific-diver training is a separate vocational route. Each has its own entry requirements, objectives and course structure.
