How Long Does A PADI Open Water Course Take?

Scuba diving is a popular activity the world over, and for good reason – it’s a fun and exhilarating way to explore the underwater world. If you’re interested in giving it a go, you may be wondering how long does a PADI open water course take?

Generally, a PADI Open Water Course will take three to four days to complete. However, this may vary depending on your level of experience and the dive school you choose. It’s important to remember that the PADI Open Water Course is just the beginning – once you’ve completed it, you’ll be a qualified scuba diver!

At Abyss Scuba Diving you will complete your knowledge development online by viewing interactive presentations, which include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes will let you test your understanding, and review and rectify anything you might happen to miss. This will allow you to progress through the program efficiently and at your own pace.

At Abyss Scuba Diving, our small class sizes (restricted to a maximum of four students per instructor) and proximal location to the ocean allows our instructors to complete the in-water training portion of the course in just two days.

Since we have a limited number of students in each PADI training session, your instructor can focus on helping you become a confident and comfortable diver. With a small class size, the instructor has more time to work with you and focus on your strengths and weaknesses. At the same time, you'll get more time swimming around and observing the marine environment rather than waiting for the other nine students trying to learn how to clear their masks.
