Christy Mccormick

Christy is a born and bred adventurer who grew up in Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates. This early introduction to travelling instilled in him a love of exploration.

Fast forward six years to a family holiday in Malaysia on the Perhentian Islands, where along with his sister and younger brother, he finally got his chance to explore the depths that had been out of reach for so long and completed his PADI open water. Over the next few years, Christy completed the Advanced Open Water in Sianoukville, Cambodia and his Rescue Diver Course in Kas, Turkey. At 18, he spent a month at the legendary Crystal Dive on the island of Koh Tao becoming a Divemaster.

After some time away from diving getting a degree in Sports Science and Coaching in Wales, he journeyed to Mexico. There he fulfilled his dream of becoming a scuba diving instructor. His passion for diving has since brought him back through Southeast Asia and finally to the shores of Australia. He has continued his adventures here and has dived to the depths of Sydney Harbour, wrangled sheep on a 6th generation farm in outback Australia and launched himself into Outdoor Education on the coast of the Illawarra. Christy's zest for adventure and his passion for scuba diving is infectious and he is determined to inspire his students at Abyss.
